About Counting Birds

CountingBirds began in the midst of my own miscarriage — a loss that left me confused, lonely, and heartbroken.

If you're here, welcome. I hope you stay awhile.

Maybe you're waiting too. Maybe you're holding a grief no one else can see, or carrying a hole in your heart from a loss that happened years ago but still feels like yesterday. Maybe motherhood feels like a promise that hasn't been kept yet — or one that's been broken.

I hope you leave here more known, more cared for, and more hopeful than when you arrived — encouraged in your walk with the Lord through your motherhood journey.

Join me as I step into each day trusting God's plan, experiencing His new mercies, and watching His story unfold.

“Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!”Luke 12:24 · NIV

Hi, friend

My Story

Hi, I'm Jaela — a passionate follower of Jesus, wife, nurse, and mom to my little bean who lives in heaven.

My husband and I stepped into the Lord's calling in October of 2025 to start our family. After seven months of waiting, the Lord answered our prayers and blessed us with Little Bean. After much initial excitement and joy, we found ourselves in an unexpected season of fear, confusion, and sadness. At 10 weeks of pregnancy, I experienced a missed miscarriage.

What I thought would be a season of shatter and ruin turned into one of comfort and strength. Just as the Lord cares for the birds, He's proven how much more He cares for me.

Each day, I continue to trust His plan over my circumstances and hope to share my story with other women as a source of encouragement.

You're not alone

Share your story

If you'd like to, I would be honored to read your story. Share it once, and that's all you ever need to do. I read every one.

Each month I may feature one woman on our Instagram. I will always reach out first and show you exactly what I plan to post.

Not sure where to start?

Share your story however feels right to you. There's no wrong way to do it, and it can be as long or as short as you like. You might write about:

  • Your pregnancy: how far along you were, whether you knew the gender, or if your baby had a name
  • How you found out about your loss, and what those first days felt like
  • The hardest parts: the grief, the loneliness, the anger, your questions, the things people said or didn't say
  • Where you've been able to count some birds: moments you've felt God near or been cared for, even in the hard
  • How I can be praying for you right now
  • Anything else on your heart that you'd like me to know
How may I use it?

Please leave out last names and identifying details about other people.
